When is Mother’s Day?
Mother’s Day is on the second Sunday of May every year. In 2024 Mother’s Day will be on Sunday the 12th of May. At Mary Eats Cake we like to celebrate Mother’s Day with High Tea for a whole week. This year we will be hosting a Hollywood Glamour Mother’s Day event from Wednesday 8 May to Sunday 12 May.
History of Mother's day
Mother's Day was first celebrated in Australia in 1924 and was created from the concern a Sydney woman had for lonely mother's who had been made widows and lost children during the war. Janet Heyden campaigned throughout the city for donations to gift to Sydney mothers at Newington State Hospital. By 1927 local newspapers around the country would have advertisements encouraging gift giving each Mother's Day
